Mountain Parkway – KY 9000 New Interchange and Reconstruction
- Project Owner: Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
- Location: Magoffin County, KY
As a Structural Subconsultant, J.M. Crawford & Associates provided preliminary and final structure design for all structures involved with the widening of this section of the Mountain Parkway in Magoffin County. In addition to a new interchange, the project involved widening of the Mountain Parkway from two lanes to a four-lane divided section and required a new, longer replacement bridge at Gifford Road (KY 3050) over the Parkway, a dual bridge on the Parkway over Middle Fork Licking River and four box culverts. Crawford also provided the hydraulic design for the structures and an adjacent waste area / industrial park.
The Gifford Road bridge (1st image) is a three span (58’-124’-100’) Type 4 PCI Beam structure crossing Gullett Branch as well as the four-lane Mountain Parkway. The Mountain Parkway crossing of the Middle Fork (2nd image) is a dual, curved, three-span (86’-100’-86’) Type 4 PCI Beam structure with each deck carrying two through lanes and a ramp lane. Box Culverts include three new single-barrel structures and extension of an existing 6’x5’ RCBC.
